  • eTB1 and eTW2

The guidance below is intended to support routine and special situation cleaning while helping maintain device performance and appearance.

General Handling and Safety

Important
AiRISTA tags are sensitive electronic devices. Improper cleaning may cause cosmetic damage or impact device functionality.

To prevent damage or unintended behavior, always follow these general precautions:

  • Do not submerge tags in liquid.
  • Do not spray liquid directly onto the device.
  • Avoid excessive moisture or pooling liquid.
  • Avoid aggressive or abrasive chemicals.

Cleaning and Disinfection Overview

AiRISTA tags may be cleaned and disinfected using non-aggressive disinfectant wipes compatible with electronic and plastic surfaces, provided that:

  • The disinfectant is used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Excess moisture is avoided at all times.

Cdiff / Contact‑Plus Disinfection

For Contact‑Plus organisms (e.g., C. difficile)
Certain facility infection‑control protocols may require the use of bleach‑based disinfectants for sporicidal activity.

Bleach‑based disinfectant wipes, such as PDI Sani‑Cloth® Bleach Germicidal Disposable Wipes, are effective against Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) spores and may be used on AiRISTA personnel tags when required by a facility’s Contact‑Plus or C. diff protocol.

Important limitation
Bleach‑based disinfectants are chemically aggressive and are not recommended for routine or frequent cleaning.

When bleach wipes are used:

  • Use only when required by facility infection‑control policy.
  • Avoid excessive moisture and liquid pooling.
  • Avoid repeated or prolonged exposure.
  • Allow the device to air dry completely before reuse.

For routine, day‑to‑day cleaning, non‑bleach disinfectants (such as Sani‑Cloth® AF3, Sani‑Cloth® Plus, or Oxivir® Tb) remain the preferred options.

Cleaning Procedure

  1. The tag does not need to be powered off before cleaning.
  2. Wipe all external surfaces using an approved disinfectant wipe.
  3. Ensure liquid does not pool around seams, buttons, or display areas.
  4. Allow the device to air dry completely before reuse.
Do not immerse, soak, or rinse AiRISTA tags.

Use Under Protective Garments

Whether a personnel tag can be reliably activated while worn under an isolation gown or protective garment depends on:

  • How the tag is worn (lanyard vs clip).
  • The material and design of the gown.
  • The specific facility protocol.

Facilities should evaluate activation behavior under their own garments and policies.
